For some students with special needs, reading and writing are very difficult to learn. Some students struggle because of a learning disability, other because of lack literacy experiences they need to become good readers and writers. Some students struggle because they’ve missed essential instruction in those foundational classes in primary grades, while pending a diagnosis, while others struggle because they’ve received poor or inadequate instruction. The more risk factors are involved, the more likely it is that those students will encounter difficulties in the academic areas of reading and writing. As special educators, our mission is to provide language arts activities that extend our students’ learning, and to offer support through accommodations and modifications.
